Pandorajam FAQ‎ > ‎

    Audio Quality

    Q. I subscribe to the Pandora One service from Pandora.com, why aren't my radio recordings in high quality mode?
    A. Pandora.com broadcasts to free listeners in 64kbps HE AAC format, and if you subscribe to the Pandora One service, in 192kbps MP3 format.  PandoraJam can record both formats, exactly as broadcast, so the quality of recordings depends on whether you subscribe to Pandora One or not. However, Pandora.com downgrades the quality of the radio broadcast if the network is slow, and they do upgrade you back, so you have manually adjust audio quality via the Pandora.com settings.

    Q.
I subscribe to the Pandora One service from Pandora.com, how can I make sure my radio broadcast is in high quality mode?
To change the streaming quality, select the Pandora One menu, and select 'Audio Quality'.

    Q. Why doesn't the iPod Shuffle playback some radio recordings?
    A. Older iPods (and it seems the iPod Shuffle) do not fully support the HE-AAC audio format. One workaround is select the radio recordings in iTunes you wish to listen to, convert them to MP3 format, and add them to a new playlist which you will sync with your iPod Shuffle.

    Q. Are the HE-AAC and MP3 audio formats the same as CD quality audio?
No, the audio is not CD quality, so you should consider purchasing a lossless version of your favourite music from the iTunes Music Store.  Lossless audio is a method of encoding and compressing audio without losing any of the original sound, whereas AAC and MP3 are both lossy.
